Our Professional Seamstresses
Cynthia Dubay & Gay Stover
Victorian Regalia currently has three seamstresses that we work with: Cynthia is part of Victorian Regalia and works exclusively for us. She takes her time making the Period costumes because they are made more as sturdy, durable clothing (lined) rather than the way a costume is made. They will look beautiful and last for a very long time.
Victorian Regalia is privileged to have Cynthia as our local designer and seamstress. She has a very high knowledge of the Victorian Era. Our clothing are more than just costumes; these clothes, in many ways, are equal to those in the era.
Gay Stover lives here in the Olmpic Peninsula. Her and her husband own a B&B located in the heart of historic Port Townsend, called Ravenscroft Inn. www.ravenscroftinn.com Gay is very involved in the history of the Victorian Era. She is also a member of the Victorian Society of America as well as a member of the Northwest Chaper. If that isn't enough, she is an accomplished seamstress and has been making Victorian Gowns for local events for years now.
We use fabrics that are available for us today. Victorian Regalia finds the fabric that works well with the design of the costume. Materials used are; taffeta's, velvets, silks, satin, laces, sheers, dupion. As well as plaids and high quality cottons and blends of other fabrics. If you have a favorite fabric we will work with that.
For embellishments we use Swarovski Crystals, 100% ostrich feathers, fine laces and trims. We also use embroidery; designed and stitched out here at Victorian Regalia. We strive for Victorian era embroidery that was favored for embellishment, however in those days it was done by hand.
We use other various embellishments such as jeweled pins. Some are antiques and are very nice old pieces. But, we also use modern day costume jewels and materials as well.
If you have a piece of your own jewelry that you want used in your costume please let us know.

Our third seamstress is JoAnne Kirley. JoAnne has her own costume business called About Costumes, Period. JoAnne is a wonderful seamstress and we are fortunate to be able to use her services when we need to. She is our backup seamstress that we use when we are so back logged that in order to give the customer the best service possible, we will go through Joanne for the Period Clothing needed. Hats are exclusively through Madam D.
