About Victorian Regalia
A Note From Madam D:
I was born and raised in Washington State, and I have lived in many areas around the world. I am now a resident of the Olympic Peninsula (Port Angeles & Sequim). My love for hats started as a young girl, and that love has never faded; it just grew stronger. As luck would have it, my Great Grandmother, Grandmother and my Aunt were milliners (hat makers). Through them and their knowledge that they passed down, I was very fortunate to have learned a great deal.
I was lucky enough to live in Japan for several years…many years ago! While there, I met a Japanese Milliner and she taught me how to make a beautiful Japanese Wedding hat.
The more I learned from all of these talented women, the bigger my interest became. But it really wasn’t something that I incorporated until later on in my life, as I became aware of the Victorian Era and the dress culture that came with that period in time. The Victorian Era is my favorite time in history. I feel as though I were born in the wrong century and should have been born in that Era, for the sole reason being…the cloths. As you can guess…the hats are my favorite part. I spent most of my time improving my skills in that area; I also started doing trunk shows taking my hats around the country. Traveling around, and doing these shows was very exciting; but I found it to be very tiring and hard on the hats. So after one particular event, I started thinking that maybe I should try out a different way of showing my Hats to customers. Enter the Internet and websites…
Now, as for the name Madam D…when I was young I picked up the nickname Madam D because I was always dressing up in those big feathery hats and costumes that I would always trip on because they were so long; and since my first name began with a D…
So I, Madam D…am here to present to you Victorian Regalia…
I hope you enjoy your tour.
